We’ve been dreaming of it all year, and now, PRINTS OF UNUSUAL SIZE is right around the corner! The second iteration of last year’s Woodcut Challenge, this time we’ve broadened our approach to include multiple techniques: woodcut, screenprint, monotype, and mezzotint. We’ve narrowed our scope to focus on a handful of pieces with the depth of color we crave in the winter months. These prints are the result of many hours and many hands; a truly collaborative effort on the part of the artists and our Hoofprint team. We’ll also be displaying the work of two fantastic relief artists from Estonia, and a selection of handmade wares, including unique holiday gifts, at the Hoofprint Bazaar. Yule Party!

SIGHTINGS

Organized by AJ Nordhagen and Brittany Kieler (of HOLODROME and Vulture Woman Press, respectively), “Sightings” includes 30 prints from artists all over the country, each asking the viewer to delve into the unknown.

“SIGHTINGS is an illustrated collection of images developed from eyewitness accounts of unexplained beings. Thirty artists contribute personal or historically documented experiences with cryptids, ghosts, extraterrestrials, and other mysterious entities. It is presented in a box set of editioned fine art prints and includes a field guide with laser-etched cover. Honoring visual traditions across the globe that illuminate the human relationship with these entities, SIGHTINGS asks the viewer to reconsider the breadth of science, continually expanding our way of knowing the world.”

DESERT TRIANGLE

We first saw this incredible portfolio in Portland at this past year’s Southern Graphics Council conference.  Organized by Krrrl, the portfolio includes 22×30” works by 30 artists who teamed up with local printshops in the southwest and Mexico to produce the editions. They have a great blog that includes images of the prints as well as process photos, essays, and more. We are very honored to show these works in Chicago–we were blown away and we think you will be, too!

Throughout her twenty-year artist book practice, her work has been exhibited at multiple venues, including the Ryerson Library of the Art Institute of Chicago, the New York Center for Book Arts, the Chicago Cultural Center, the James R. Thompson Center’s Illinois Art Gallery, the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and Chicago’s Newberry Library. Her artist’s books have been included in multiple juried national and international traveling exhibitions, and are part of special collection libraries throughout the United States. Ancillary to her artist book practice, she completed nearly 2000 pen and ink illustrations for various Mennonite-related publications from 1985 to 2006.
